Create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and give me a willing spirit.

how to get rid of shame

Shame prevents you from accessing God's Presence, prevents you from taking risks and achieving your purpose, saps your motivation, and hobbles your life and relationships. Eliminate all thoughts of shame.

In chapter 7 of "Unlocking Destinies in the Courts of Heaven" Robert Henderson wrote: "When the devil accuses us before God's Throne, it will always bring shame and condemnation. In fact,

one of the ways you can know there is a case against you before the Courts of Heaven is the shame you inexplicably sense and carry... You intuitively are picking up in your spirit what the devil is saying about you in the courts." Henderson's basic approach is to "appear before the court of heaven" (this is the prayer posture) and to confess to whatever shame you are feeling, or acts or errors or omissions for which you are feeling shamed. He advises don't bother attempting to argue or justify - just confess, and accept Jesus taking your place. Henderson gets results immediately after "appearing in the courts of heaven".

I found after I did that, I still got challenged and challenged hard. The shame was regarding a distorted accusation made against me. There was enough truth in it to be unable to deny it, but so distorted as to be completely false.  It bothered me terribly. I found I had to keep monitoring my thoughts and feelings. Anytime I began to feel anxious, discouraged, and separate from the Holy Spirit, I also usually found I was inadvertently thinking or feeling shame, or worse, sort of inattentively or distractedly thinking about the shaming situation (replaying it in my mind).

Every time I caught the thought, I reminded myself to stop thinking that thought, and to instead intentionally put a smile on my face, and to intentionally thank Jesus for taking my shame and for giving me his amazingness in place of any shame. It took about 6 months now, but seems to have worked - the shame is gone - replaced with gratitude. Once in awhile the thought will pop up, but I notice it quickly now and flip it to gratitude and dismiss the shame.

I found it impossible to close my eyes and pray when feeling shamed. I was too uptight - and I needed to move to be able to keep any focus. So walking praying worked best for me.
