"Which is the most important of all the commandments?"

Jesus said, "The first in importance is, ' Listen Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.'"

"And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.'"

be aware of your focus meditation

3/19/2020

When quieting yourself, being still before YHWH, to what does your thoughts or feelings drift? What's your focus? What you focus on is what you'll feel and move towards and do and become. That's why God says NO idols - he wants our focus on Him - so we can become like Jesus and be indwelled with His Spirit.

4 types of meditative insights

From an article by Jermaine and Rebecca Francis:

When you have become still before God, you want to know him, to get His thoughts. "He gives us meaning in our spirits. That meaning can come in a millisecond, and yet it can be full of what feels like hours or days' worth of content...
to translate Spirit revelation into words, we first need to know how we're processing the revelation through our minds. We receive the revelation by our spirits; we do not receive it by our minds... we need our minds to make sense of, meditate on, communicate, and apply the revelation..." (short test on next page)

meditate on god's voice in coincidence

If you still yourself, and look at occurrences and opportunities around you, you may find God is speaking to you in coincidences or opening pathways to you (pathways that can be missed if you're distracted and disconnected from Him). Frank Viola wrote about it here, and cited to Frank Laubach as follows:

importance of yawning & Values (secular)

9/30/2019

From Mark Waldman (associate of neurologist. Andrew Newberg):
"NeuroTip: [When] you feel anxious, bored or stressed, go somewhere private and do three "mindful yawns". Watch how your mental state and mood begins to change. By the third yawn you should feel a deep sense of calmness where it is easier to focus on what is actually happening in the present moment. If not, spend 60 seconds doing super-slow stretches and/or focusing on a deep inner value.
Now watch all of the different thoughts and feelings and sensations that are floating around in your semi-conscious mind – that’s your imagination network. Observe the anxiety, then yawn and bring your attention back into the present moment. Do this for 10 seconds or 60 seconds or longer if you feel like it. Now walk back into the social arena (the workplace, a party, or your family interactions) staying mindfully relaxed. Listen, observe, and use your intuition to gently engage with others!  If you practice this for just a couple of days you’ll find that any anxiety or boredom or stress turns into curiosity!"

spirit prayer is the language of spirit

Key points are at about 10 to 16 minutes. Rick Renner explains God is Spirit, a rebirthed human is Spirit. Therefore praying spirit language makes sense. At about 19-20 minutes: Praying in tongues releases God's mysteries from your spirit into your thoughts and circumstances. Praying in tongues reprograms your subconscious, but its more than that, its spiritual truth.
Here is another Renner video on new Testament Model of How to be Filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Benedictine Abbey of Christ in the Desert (New Mexico) maintains a monastery guesthouse for visitors. It sounds amazing:
"To aid all of our guests in their quest to seek God, an atmosphere is maintained that provides time for privacy, prayer, reading, and reflection on God’s Word speaking in prayer services and the liturgies. The atmosphere most conducive to this kind of sharing of our life includes silence and some solitude."

Here is their guidance on prayer and chanting:

pray in quiet and solitude

A talk by Barry C. Black, 62nd Chaplain of the United States Senate.
Excerpt:      "What did Jesus teach his disciples about prayer? He told them to pray in solitude, and the Father who sees in secret would reward them openly...When we pray in solitude, we are more likely to hear the whisper of God’s still small voice... Perhaps this is why we are admonished in Psalms 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” It is perhaps not coincidental that when God spoke to the boy Samuel (1 Samuel chapter 3), the child was resting on his bed. Find a solitary place to pray, your prayer will be more effective, more likely to bring an answer. Jesus also told His disciples to let their words be few; prayer involves listening as well as speaking."

prayer versus thinking

11/9/2018

From Word-Wise (Robert Cottrill)
"...there is absolutely no power in prayer itself--beyond perhaps what's called the "power of positive thinking." (And having a positive attitude is fine, but it is not prayer!) Offering a prayer to the clock on the wall, or to a berry bush in the garden, will get us nowhere. Not even if it is a long and earnest prayer. Why? Because the power does not rest in prayer, but in the object of prayer.  The benefit of prayer is that it calls upon the power of Almighty God, at His invitation, and taps the resources of heaven (Philippians 4:19). There is a saying: "Prayer changes things." But it would be more accurate to say "God changes things, in answer to prayer."

god speaks to you in pictures

10/9/2018

From Praying Medic:
"...people can make visions sound all mystical and weird and spooky, but the fact is – visions are about as normal as trying to remember the face of the woman in line behind you at the grocery store. Visions are nothing more than visual images that appear in your mind’s eye or what some would call your imagination...
Most people receive these little images from God and don’t even know it’s Him sending them. A vision from God is an invitation to a discussion. If you receive an image in your mind and you think it might be from Him, ask what it means. Maybe just take a guess at what it means and see what happens. You might receive another vision. Ask what that one means and wait for the answer or take a guess. Before you know it you’ll be having a visual conversation with God.

praying without words is the best prayer

“For many years after my conversion,” he admits, “I never used any ready-made forms except the Lord’s Prayer. In fact I tried to pray without words at all—not to verbalize the mental acts. Even in praying for others I tended to avoid their names and substituted mental images of them. I still think that the prayer without words is the best—if one can really achieve it.”
