"Which is the most important of all the commandments?"

Jesus said, "The first in importance is, ' Listen Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.'"

"And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.'"

From C.S. Lewis Institute: Why practice Biblical Meditation?
The goal of Christian meditation is to internalize and personalize the Scripture so it affects how we think, live and act. Biblical meditation is a means of speaking and listening to God as we pray the Scriptures.

From Steve Cioccolanti of Australia:
"It is good to wake up in the morning with praise on our lips. We can make a decision to be joyful from the first second we get up. Listen to David! Psalm 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalm 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. Mark 1:35 (NIV) Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."

From The Bible Project:
"Christian meditation is about filling our hearts and minds with the divine... meditation is the practice of entering into the text by reading and rereading it out loud (or listening to it on an app), allowing it to speak to us. ...key words, phrases, and ideas jump off the page at us. Then

meditate the word to defeat stress

KCM advice on how to meditate scripture:
Ask Holy Spirit to help you find a scripture that pertains to your situation. Read it, in context, and in the original text. Write it out. Post it where you can see it. Ponder it. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning to you. It may take days or weeks, but over time the Holy Spirit will give the meaning and revelation to you.
KCM recommends these verses to battle stress," here are five to get you started..."

kcm on meditation and visualizing

12/8/2018

KCM provides blogs, videos and booklets on scripture meditation and "seeing" (or visualizing) the result. Here's a suggested process:
To believe the Word of God (make the promise real in your life) meditate on it. Get quiet before God. Forgive. Ponder a scripture. Apply it to yourself (get an image of you in your mind that lines up with the word of God). Continue to envision the promise of God until it is reality inside you and has reformed and molded your thoughts and actions.
"This is what meditation is all about—taking time to envision the promise of God until it becomes a reality inside you. It’s tremendously powerful, and by focusing on the scriptural promises God has given you, you can put it to work in your life. As you meditate, you will renew your mind to the truth in His Word. It will change you and refine you and the way you respond to situations."

what is a soaking meditation?

Katie Souza: Soaking is waiting in the presence of God until you KNOW your need is met. Soaking breaks resistance. In the presence, meditate on the word, and meditate on healing, or other God-given-desired result. If you complain or "curse" or gossip or use angry words - you soak that in.

The Benedictine Abbey of Christ in the Desert (New Mexico) maintains a monastery guesthouse for visitors. It sounds amazing:
"To aid all of our guests in their quest to seek God, an atmosphere is maintained that provides time for privacy, prayer, reading, and reflection on God’s Word speaking in prayer services and the liturgies. The atmosphere most conducive to this kind of sharing of our life includes silence and some solitude."

Here is their guidance on prayer and chanting:

Tremble in awe before the Lord, and do not sin against him. Be still upon your bed and search your heart before him.

Now, because of you, Lord, I will lie down in peace and sleep comes at once, for no matter what happens, I will live unafraid!

“For many years after my conversion,” he admits, “I never used any ready-made forms except the Lord’s Prayer. In fact I tried to pray without words at all—not to verbalize the mental acts. Even in praying for others I tended to avoid their names and substituted mental images of them. I still think that the prayer without words is the best—if one can really achieve it.”

Spurgeon was an English Baptist minister. Start at page seven (7) - captioned "Read and Meditate"

"...the precious portions of God’s Word that are given you today, in such a manner that you may go in the strength of it for forty days and continue to find fresh food in the same text day after day, and even month after month! But this is only to be done by meditating upon it."

“But how can we meditate,” asks one, “when we have so many things to think of?” But “one
